The Minnesota Digital Library (http://www.mndigital.org) is working with Sandbox Studios (http://www.sandboxstudios.org/) to train teachers this summer to use Pachyderm, an easy-to-use multimedia authoring tool. Designed for people with no multimedia experience, Pachyderm is accessed through a web browser and is very easy to use.
Teachers and school library media specialists are encourage to apply for this summer workshop. We have room for 15 participants.
The group will meet twice this summer – July 10 and July 24 – at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN. Training starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. We will provide lunch both days.
The MDL will reimburse participants for mileage and parking after they have completed one learning object using Pachyderm and the items in Minnesota Reflections, (http://reflections.mndigital.org) a database of primary resources from across the state.

During Summer 2009 the Science Education area in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction will offer The Institute on Education for a Sustainable Future. The institute provides a unique opportunity for teachers to learn about Sustainability, a new and developing field of education. The institute will provide information of Education and Human Development, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, and a gift from a private donor.
The course is applicable to the M.Ed. program in science education and may be applicable other graduate programs with the approval of your advisor. The more complete description of the institute is provided at the end of this message. All are welcome in the course.
Paid Tuition Opportunity
There is a unique opportunity for 16 people (primarily middle school or secondary school teachers) who wish to participate in developing, testing and revising curriculum modules related to sustainability during the 2009-2010 academic year. Teams of two people will develop one module each. Ultimately, a subset of the modules will be used in future summer institutes and hopefully in an online version of the institute. The tuition for the institute will be paid for those who wish to be involved in the larger project. Those who wish to be involved in the larger project will participate in a series of 6-8 work sessions over the course of the year during which we will consider the objectives, instructional strategies, format and ways of assessing the usability of the module. Preference for selection will be given to those who apply as a team of two but that is not required because teams of two can be formed with the other participants.
